Biography


Chinese-born Haixiang Ge is a highly accomplished violist and musician, known for his exceptional talent and dedication to his craft. Haixiang began his musical journey at the prestigious Shanghai Conservatory of Music, where he obtained his Bachelor of Music degree in Viola Performance in 2020 under the instruction of Xidi Shen, Jason Lam, and Nian Liu. In 2022, Haixiang furthered his musical education and obtained a Master of Music degree in Orchestral Studies at The Tianjin Juilliard School, studying with Sheila Browne and Honggang Li, violist of the renowned Shanghai Quartet. Currently, he is pursuing his Doctor of Musical Arts at the University of Miami, studying under the esteemed professors Jodi Levitz. 

Throughout his career, Haixiang has received numerous awards and accolades for his exceptional performances. He has been recognized as the 1st Prize winner in the Stockholm International Competition and has garnered Gold Prizes in prestigious competitions such as the Quebec International Competition and the Best Classical Musicians Awards. Additionally, he achieved the 2nd Prize in the New York International Classical Music Competition, 2nd Prize in the American Virtuoso International Music Competition, 3rd Prize in the Boston International Music Competition and was awarded top prizes in many other international competitions. In 2023, he released an album featuring Bela Bartok's Viola Concerto.

Haixiang has showcased his diverse talents in various chamber music ensembles and orchestras around the world. As a chamber musician, he has performed at renowned venues and events such as the Aspen Music Festival, the Bartok Festival Connect in Tianjin, and the Tianjin Chamber Music Festival where he collaborated with Scott Bell. He has also participated in the Yo-Yo-Ma YMCG Music Festival, Endless Summer Concert Series, and Viva la Viola Music Festival.

In terms of orchestral experience, Haixiang has held principal violist positions in several esteemed orchestras including Frost Symphony Orchestra (2023-now), Ball State Symphony Orchestra (2022-2023), Tianjin Juilliard Symphony Orchestra (2020-2022), and Tianjin Juilliard String Orchestra (2020-2022). While he was principal of the Tianjin Juilliard Orchestra, Haixiang showcased his prowess as a soloist in Stravinsky’s Pulcinella Suite. During the summer of 2019, he had the privilege of being the Principal Violist for the Asian Youth Orchestra, where he toured multiple cities throughout Japan, Korea, China, and Taiwan. Additionally, he has performed with notable musicians such as Yo-Yo Ma, Wei He, and the Shanghai Quartet.

Apart from his performance career, Haixiang is also passionate about music education. He has served as a Precollege Mentor at Dingshande Art Continuation School, sharing his knowledge and expertise with young musicians.

Beyond his musical pursuits, Haixiang enjoys spending his free time engaging in various sports, including badminton, table tennis, football, tennis, and golf. Embracing an adventurous spirit, he also has a passion for exploring and savoring different culinary cuisines.
